Potty Training your Frenchie puppy
Potty training a puppy may seem intimidating and overwhelming at first, but don’t worry— it’s actually not as hard as it might seem. With consistency, patience, and a little bit of guidance, potty training a puppy can be a relatively smooth process.
First and foremost, the key to successful potty training is consistency. Every puppy has a different schedule and may need different amounts of time outside to potty. Keeping to a consistent schedule helps the puppy learn where and when they should go and can make the training process much easier. A good rule of thumb is how many months old they are is how long they can hold it. For example a 2 month old puppy can hold it for 2 hours.
Second, it’s important to reward and praise good behavior when it happens. Positive reinforcement is everything. Giving your puppy treats and positive reinforcement when they go to the bathroom outside can help encourage them to keep doing it. Additionally, it’s important to watch for signs that your puppy might need to relieve themselves. These signs could include barking or scratching at a door, sniffing the ground, or circling as if looking for a spot.
Finally, it’s important to be patient throughout the training process. Potty training requires time, patience, and consistency — and it may take a few weeks/months before your puppy is completely trained. Don’t get discouraged if they have an accident, just keep up with the consistent training and watch them continue to learn.
Potty training a puppy may seem like a challenge, but with consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, it can be an easy and successful process. Just remember— stay consistent, give rewards and praise, pay attention to signs that they need to go, and be patient throughout the process.
